A column of calming blue pours down the center of this piece. Strokes of deep hunter green (bordering on darkness) fade from the outer edges inward to a near translucent moss hue. Here, a female form emerges from the blue background from highlights and lowlights cast in hues of teal, aquamarine and turquoise.
She represents a newer form of the Easley nude where less is more. This nude is a suggestion, captured by a line here or there, leaning on light and shadows on the skin to create mystery.
From the top of the piece to the bottom, we see her right shoulder sloping down to her chest, curving into the top of her right breast. Both catch the same bright light emitting from somewhere to her left. Mostly standing, she appears also to be resting lightly on something that is just out of sight – behind the righthand cascade of green. Her right arm hangs casually behind her hip; her thighs meet in a shadowed “v” just above where her legs disappear from frame.
The blue hues that illuminate the contours of the body are a balance of well-placed organic and geometric shapes. They are imbued with an added sense of depth by the artist’s palette knife technique of layering the acrylics. Smaller, feathery applications sit with larger, solid areas of color, creating the feel of delicate detail. In its three vertical thirds – green/blue/green – this 30x30 piece is a glimpse into peaceful repose.
